MEDAR stands for Memory of Argentine Education. It a project developed by The National Teachers’ Library (BNM) which arises from the previous project History of the Argentine Education (HEA). Its main objective is to contribute to the knowledge and research in the field of Argentine Education. MEDAR, in particular, plans to increase the use of BNM bibliographic and documental material undergraduate education students, researchers, teaching staff, and general patrons, and therefore give access to these cherished historical sources.
With that purpose, MEDAR includes the following sections:
Humanities, social sciences and history of education specialists select and digitize the material from the BNM Historical Collection. The digitalized historical sources are sorted by subject and chronological order so as to be found and viewed on the website in a clear and simple way. At the same time, each subject axis includes a context introduction to the collection and promotes the further study and consult of the digitized pieces.
This section includes the collection of educational magazines that form part of the historical collection of the BNM. The National Educational Press Project, in progress, intends to build a catalog of periodical educational publications nationwide.
The National School Archives Program, recently created (indicate ministerial resolution number), seeks to generate a strong commitment with the historical educational heritage within each educational community, promoting the preservation and use of the existing materials, in the frame of strengthening the institutional and pedagogical memory of the community.
The BNM and the Buenos Aires City School Museum have started working together in the creation of a project to save and give worth to objects used by past generations in our schools nationwide. It is expected that by 2008 a joint agreement will be signed in order to launch the project.
As from the year 2000, specialists on history, library science and education are organizing bibliographic exhibitions with the purpose of showing and sharing our special collections, so as to highlight our education history, as well as our identity and cultural traditions. A final digital version is created and posted on our MEDAR webpage for the global community to search and enjoy.
The BNM MEDAR webpage hosts those projects related to the history of our education which have been designed or developed by institutions belonging to our education system or other public institutions
This section of our webpage offers links to other websites and electronic resources which have been carefully selected by our specialists.
